Liverpool lose to Aston Villa and miss out on Europa League – Premier League update
Liverpool lost their last game of the season to Aston Villa, 1-0 and lost their chance to play in Europa League next season as Tottenham won its final game and got the fifth spot in English Premier League. It was the former Middlesbrough player Stewrt Downing
who scored the only goal of the game to give Villa a one-nil win.
This was the second consecutive loss for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in the league, after being on a fantastic run in the last couple of months which started with a 3-1 win against Manchester United. Kenny Dalglish may not be too disappointed by the loss because he has hinted
before that playing in Europa League next season may hamper Liverpool’s chances of getting the fourth league spot for a Champions League berth in 2012/13 season.
Dalglish was already looking at next season when he made it clear that he will be making some purchases in the summer. Two players in English Premier League that have been on Liverpool’s radar were playing against them on Sunday. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Young-c6813 and Stuart
Downing are two Aston Villa player that Kenny has had his eye on for a while. Both players were very impressive against the Reds and Dalglish would have been pleased to have had a firsthand experience which will help him decide if he wants to make a bid for
them.
Liverpool seemed to be playing half-heartedly during the match and it looked as if they did not want to win and play in Europa League next season. The Reds looked tired and jaded and hardly gave Villa any problems in the 90 minutes of football. This is also
the first time that Liverpool has not managed to make it into Europe since 1999.
Dalglish had shown his hand before the game and said that he was not really interested in going for all three points as he named a young and inexperienced bench for the game. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Joe-Cole-c18694 one of the biggest flops of the season was given a rare start to prove
his worth in the final game of the season but the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international did little to impress his new boss. After his performance his future at the club now remains under a cloud. Since Liverpool signed him for free, any money they can get on him would be
a bonus. Liverpool are likely to off-load him in the summer window.
Liverpool finish the season in sixth place and with the American owners already assuring the manager that he will have a big chunk of change in his pocket to make summer buys. Liverpool fans are l*****g their lips in anticipation as the summer transfer window
approaches. With the team not playing in Europe it may be hard to get big names to the club but having already got the likes of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll Liverpool look strong in the attack. All they need is a couple of speedy wingers and a decent centre
back. The shopping list may already be ready at Anfield as the 18-time League Champions await next season to get back among the elites of English football.
