Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish insists Andy Carroll will be influential for the Reds
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish feels their record signing Andy Carroll will have a huge impact and could prove an asset for the Reds in the UEFA Europa League.
Dalglish said, “He is a massive player and I suppose the fact we put him on the (Europa League squad) list at the beginning of February when we had to put names forward shows we had great faith in him being fit and great faith in Andy. He is a great attribute
for us but he is only a great attribute when he is fit and well and it is up to us to keep him fit. The game is part and parcel of his recuperation.”
Liverpool broke all previous records to sign Andy Carroll from Newcastle United for the massive amount of £35 million– making him the most expensive British footballer and eighth most expensive player in the world. Carroll joined the Merseyside club on the
deadline day of the January 2011 transfer window after their striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 on the same day.
Carroll was suffering with a thigh injury when he joined Liverpool and he is still short of full fitness. The 22-year-old made his Liverpool debut in their 3-1 win over archrivals Manchester United and came on the field for the first time in over two months.
Carroll was introduced by Kenny Dalglish in the 75th minute when Liverpool were already three goals ahead of Manchester United. The English international almost scored from his first touch, as he headed the ball towards United’s goal which was
miraculously saved by the keeper.
The former Newcastle United striker is yet to start for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Kenny Dalglish claims that they have been careful with Carroll’s injury and will not rush the striker back. Dalglish also hailed the patience and dedication shown by both Andy Carroll
and the Liverpool medical staff.
The Liverpool manager added, “He realises the great part the medical team have played and we have to equal the quality of them and Andy's dedication by managing it properly. Everyone wants to play and he has been as desperate as us to get out there. But
there is no point him being out that length of time and then us being irresponsible and throwing him in because it is a sentimental decision.”
Liverpool are currently in the knock-out round of the Europa League and Andy Carroll is expected to make his European debut against Dynamo Kyiv on 10 March, 2011.
The 22-year-old striker is yet to score in a Reds shirt but he has already scored 9 times for Newcastle United in the Premier League in the ongoing 2010-11 season.
