Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has refuted claims that Roy Hodgson will be looking for vengeance against his old employers when West Bromwich Albion face Liverpool at the Hawthorns on Saturday, 2 April, 2011.
Roy Hodgson was appointed the Liverpool manager in 2010, but the Englishman endured a torrid time at Anfield, leading to his dismissal after just six months in charge.
Under Hodgson, the Reds got off to their worst start in the Premier League for more than 50 years. At one point, things were so bad that Liverpool were floundering in the relegation zone, an unacceptable position for a club with such a pedigree.
After a few weeks of seeing their team struggling in the bottom half of the table, the fans had had enough. The crowd at Anfield let their feelings towards Hodgson known by chanting Kenny Dalglish’s name and calling for dismissal of Hodgson.
Liverpool’s new owners finally caved in. Roy Hodgson was sacked in December 2010, and Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish was appointed as interim manager for the rest of ongoing 2010-11 season.
However, the Englishman did not stay out of football for long. Hodgson is currently the manager of Premier League strugglers West Bromwich Albion and he is set to face his old club when Liverpool visit the Hawthorns in a few days time.
When asked if Hodgson will be out for revenge against Liverpool, manager Kenny Dalglish responded, “Roy hasn't got anything to prove to anybody. If you say he has extra motivation then you are doubting the man's integrity and implying he never had enough
motivation before. It's Liverpool versus West Brom and we'll face a team that has been prepared by Roy. I don't have a problem with that. It'll be nice to see him again.”
Dalglish went on to add that he has the greatest respect for Hodgson’s abilities as a manger, and he believes that the Reds will not find it easy to get a result at Hawthorns.
The Scot said, “Roy brings his own management style to the club and they have done well since he went in there. Everyone knows he's an excellent coach so we know what to expect. We know how they will play so it's up to us to be better than them on the day.”
Liverpool are currently in sixth place in the Premier League standings, hot on the heels of fifth placed Tottenham Hotspur.
