Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish showers praise on his players after Birmingham win: EPL News
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has heaped praise on his players after their 5-0 drubbing of Birmingham City at Anfield on Saturday. The Scot believes that his side’s unity was the key to their sensational performance against the Carling Cup winners.
Pundits often say that Liverpool look like their old selves under the guidance of Kenny Dalglish, and Saturday night’s display against Birmingham served to prove them right. The Reds completely demolished Alex Mcleish’s side, scoring two goals within the
first 25 minutes to set themselves up for their biggest win since September 2009. The match ultimately ended 5-0 in favour of the home side, as Liverpool edged closer to fifth placed Tottenham Hotspur.
If they keep up their current form, the Reds will be in with a real shot of securing their place in next season’s Europa League competition. It is an amazing turnaround for a club which was floundering in the relegation zone at one point in the campaign,
and it has all coincided with the arrival of Kenny Dalglish at the helm.
However, the Scot is not taking any of the credit for this particular result. He insists that his players were the stars in Saturday’s crucial encounter against Birmingham City.
Speaking after the match, Dalglish said, “They are all playing for each other and the players are going to play better if they are confident and if they are happy going to work they will get better results. Getting a goal early doors set us on our way. We
then got the second goal but the third was the most important.”
The Liverpool boss reserved most of the praise for hat-trick hero Maxi Rodriguez, who looks like he has overcome his injury problems for the time being. The Argentinean was the main architect in Liverpool’s huge victory, and Kenny Dalglish believes that
even though he is predominantly a midfielder, Maxi is still a vital source of goals for the club.
The Scot added, “Maxi is a very intelligent footballer. He's not a direct replacement for Andy (Carroll) but he's got more goals than him in that one performance. Maxi has not played for a few weeks and came on and did a fantastic job for us. Joe (Cole)
also got his reward because he has trained well and he came on and got a goal.”
