Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson welcomes takeover
Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson believes that the club’s new owners, New England Sports Ventures (NEV), will be able to improve Liverpool and bring the club forward.
Hodgson described the takeover as being a very good day for the club.
The new owner, John W. Henry, has held a brief conversation with the Liverpool manager and Hodgson is optimistic about the new owner's plans for Liverpool and the team.
After a bitter dispute over the ownership of Liverpool with Tom Hicks and George Gillett, the former Fulham and Inter Milan manager is excited about the Liverpool takeover.
"The new owners are welcome," Hodgson said.
The Liverpool management team will hope that the takeover by NESV will allow them to buy players in the January transfer window.
"A cloud has been lifted. Hopefully, the new owners will come in, wipe out the debts and we can spend more on players, and invest in a different way to the last transfer window," said the Liverpool manager.
"When the club is in a bad situation, it's bound to affect you in some way," added Hodgson.
Liverpool faced the possibility of a point’s deduction if they were to fall into administration, but the takeover by NESV has saved the club from that situation.
The Liverpool manager admitted that, "A nine point deduction would have been a disaster, but fortunately we aren't adrift at the bottom. Now we need to make sure that we start to climb the table."
However, Hodgson refused to accept that Liverpool’s performances were related to the off-field dealings at the club.
"We've had a bad start to the season, six points from seven games isn't good enough,” he said.
The Liverpool manager will hope that the NESV takeover will add some much needed stability to the club and that Liverpool can now concentrate on football matters.
