Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre reveals plans for nurturing young talent – EPL news
Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has revealed that the club is shifting its focus towards nurturing young talent rather than spending big bucks on battle hardened veterans of the game.
Ayre’s comments seem hypocritical, especially after Liverpool’s well-documented January 2011 spending spree. The Reds spent a whopping 55 million pounds in the transfer window, bringing in Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll to replace the departing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s extravagant spending at the start of the year is worrisome for fans who are hoping for financial stability at the club; however, managing director Ian Ayre believes that those fears are unfounded.
The Reds recently reported losses of 20 million pounds for the fiscal year ending in July 2010, but Ayre believes that those losses are the final vestige of the reign of previous owners http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-c35214 Hicks and George Gillett. He believes that the club is now entering
a new era; one which promises a bright future for Liverpool both on and off the pitch.
Ayre has revealed that the club is focusing on developing its youth academy to avoid the need to delve into the market whenever a transfer window rolls around.
Speaking on the matter, he said, “We have a very minimal debt and that allows us to reinvest that money into the team and the squad, which is what everybody connected with the club wants to see. We had an extremely successful January transfer window which
saw the ownership and management teams working closely to bring in some high quality players.”
He added, “We have also focused on reducing the average age of our squad and are delighted with the progress of a number of our younger players who have come through our revamped academy operation.”
Liverpool are currently in fifth place in the Barclays Premier League standings. If the Reds are to secure a spot in next season’s Europa League, they will have to win their remaining three games of the campaign. Sixth placed Tottenham Hotspur are level
on points with Liverpool, but they have played a game less.
