With 18 games under Kenny Dalglish’s side’s belt, it time to take a look at how Liverpool have fared so far this season and what one can expect going forward
Kenny Dalglish has put smiles back on the faces of the Reds’ fans and a general feel good factor around the club. The Merseyside outfit currently sit sixth in the league with that coveted fourth and final UEFA Champions League qualification spot well within reach.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s 31 in fifth spot in what is turning out to be one of the most competitive seasons in recent history.
Unbeaten at Home
Liverpool are the only side with the exception of Manchester City that have not been beaten on their home ground so far. An impressive statistic no doubt yet at the same time Anfield is no fortress.
Of the last six games played at Anfield, the home side have only won one and the remaining five matches have ended as draws. If one looks at it that is a total of 10 points dropped, 10 points that could have had Liverpool in the title race.
Even the match against bitter rivals Manchester United was a disappointment in terms of not coming away with the three points. The home side have dominated on almost every occasion, but the results have no matched the performances.
Kenny Dalglish will be well aware of the fact that these draws need to be converted into wins otherwise Liverpool could find themselves lagging behind in the race for fourth place.
Lady luck is not smiling on Merseyside
The fact that Liverpool have hit the woodwork 16 times this season tells one all they need to know about how the Reds have suffered more than just a little misfortune in front of goal.
Luis Suarez even managed to hit the post twice in the same match, if the Reds get that extra bit of luck and if even half of these chances had gone in, the Red half of Merseyside would have had much, much more to cheer about.
Luis Suarez banned!
Suarez has been the Reds’ best player by far this season, though his return in terms of goals leaves a little wanting, his all round contribution has been nothing short of phenomenal.
However, the Uruguayan international has been caught up in controversy over allegations surrounding racist remarks made by him towards Manchester United defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231. This means that Suarez could miss up to two months worth of action and will count as a deadly blow for King Kenny’s side.
Semi-finals!
One thing that Liverpool fans do have to look forward to is their first semi-final appearance in a long time. The Reds are set to face Manchester City in the two legs of the semi-finals of the League Cup.
While it may not be the biggest tournament around it does represent Liverpool’s best chance of getting silverware this year.
All in all, Liverpool need to ensure they are more clinical in front of goal if they wish to keep up with the top sides and how Dalglish and Damien Comolli conduct themselves in the January transfer window will be a crucial factor in the side’s second half of the season.
