Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano wants summer move
Argentina captain Javier Mascherano is in full pursuit to try and force a move away from Liverpool. The 26-year-old had been hoping to be reunited with former Reds boss Rafa Benitez at Inter Milan, whilst a move to Barcelona is also on his wish list.
Benitez is known to be an admirer of the combative midfielder who is estimated to be worth around £30million, a figure which both Inter and Barca are believed to be unwilling to match.
The Spanish coach may however offer Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari in part-exchange, but it would still take a cash adjustment of at around £20m to push a deal through.
Marco Piccioli, one of the player's advisors, said that despite the admiration Benitez has for the Liverpool player as a footballer and a person, a deal is not a dead cert.
He said: "I know Mascherano and Benitez have a great relationship, but sometimes that is not enough. A deal can only happen towards the last part of the transfer market. That is my vision, at least."
Money could also prove to be the stumbling block to any prospective deal with Barcelona after financial concerns and the clubs interest in Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
