Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva commits his long-term future with the Reds – EPL news
Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva penned a new long-term contract with the club on Wednesday.
Lucas signed for Liverpool in 2007 from Brazilian club Gremio for approximately 5 million pounds. After witnessing a slow start at the club and criticised for not being a player of a top level club, Lucas has established himself as an important player in
the Liverpool team and is a first team starter now.
Lucas played in his 100th game for the club when Liverpool drew 1-1 against Wigan Athletic earlier in the ongoing 2010-11 season. Talks regarding a new contract were on hold for several months now and manager Kenny Dalglish is delighted to tie
the player for a long term.
“We are delighted. He is a smashing lad to have around the football club but he hasn't been signed for that, he has been signed because of what he does on the pitch. Certainly since I came in he has been a great asset to the team and has done tremendously
well,” said Dalglish.
Dalglish believes that the honesty and dedication while playing in a Liverpool shirt is clearly visible when Lucas is playing on the field. The Scot added that Lucas is happy to be at the club and he is getting everything what he deserves. His commendable
performances have earned him a call-up from the Brazilian national team recently.

“I am very, very pleased. We have been talking for a few months now, ever since I arrived at the club.
