Liverpool midfielder Raul Meireles admits the season was a big disappointment – EPL news
Liverpool midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Raul-Meireles-c30678, has admitted that the 2010/11 season was a disappointment as far as the club is concerned. But he insisted that it could have been even worse if manager Kenny Dalglish had not come for the rescue.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 had a rather poor season as they finished sixth on the Premier League standings table with 58 points. The Reds started the season dismally under former manager Roy Hodgson. The former Fulham manager was replaced by club legend, Kenny Dalglish,
in January when the club sat in 12th place. The Scot revived the club and some decent performances led to a sixth placed finish at the end of the season.
Raul Meireles also had an impressive season after he joined as a replacement for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 in the summer. The Portuguese justified his 11.7 million Pound price tag with some superb performances in the English Premier League
including a winner against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 at Stamford Bridge.
The former Porto midfielder admitted that his maiden season with the Merseyside giants could have been good. He added that if his side had a relatively better beginning, the results could have a lot different. The player revealed that for a club like Liverpool
which has such a rich history, the finish is not acceptable.
“My debut in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 could have been better. We finished sixth in the table, but this is disappointing for a club of the stature of Liverpool,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The Portuguese international hopes to challenge for the Premier League title next season and expects his team to make a strong comeback. He remains confident that the performances would improve considerably next term and also called for some quality signings
in the summer transfer window.
“We failed to compete for the title and we are frustrated by this. I am sure that we are going to improve a great deal next season,” he concluded.
Raul Meireles has scored five goals in 40 appearances for Liverpool this season. He also has 44 international caps to his name, scoring eight goals.
