http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 midfielder Steven Gerrard has been ruled out for the rest of the ongoing 2010-11 Barclays Premier League season.
After his groin surgery in March 2011, the midfielder returned to Liverpool’s training ground on 1 April but unfortunately sustained a similar injury which will keep him on the sidelines for at least two more months.
Injury to Gerrard is a major blow to Liverpool as he is considered as one of their best players. The Reds http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Captain-c8314 has scored four goals from 21 appearances so far in the campaign.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish confirmed Gerrard’s injury. He said, “We still don't know definitively what the problem is, We will wait to get a precise answer from the people that he (Gerrard) has to see but he won't be involved again this season.”
At present, Liverpool are struggling with a lot of injury problems. Recently, defender http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Glen-Johnson-c15050 are also out with hamstring
injuries.
Dalglish maintains it is disappointing to have injuries to important players but his side needs to handle the situation with a positive mind set. The Reds boss has urged his player to remain focused for the matches ahead.
He added, “It is a blow to anyone but it's more disappointing for the players than it is for us, obviously. We just have to get on with it and without being disrespectful to the players who are injured the most important ones are the ones who are fit. They
are the ones who can be chosen. At this particular moment in time I'm as good a player as Steven (Gerrard).”
Currently, Liverpool are placed sixth in the Premier League table after accumulating 45 points from 31 matches. From the given situation, a place in next year’s UEFA Champions League is beyond them, however, the Reds look set to qualify for the Europa League.
Liverpool host Manchester City in their next Premier League fixture on 11 April, 2011.
