The Spanish goalkeeper has admitted that Liverpool have indeed improved in the English Premier League as well as the domestic cup competitions as the Reds have already won the Carling Cup and are now gearing up to take on Chelsea
in the F.A Cup final...
Pepe Reina has come out in defence of his team mates at Liverpool and challenged everyone by stating that most clubs would’ve taken up the offer of winning the F.A Cup as well as the Carling Cup rather than winning the English
Premier League at the start of the season. Liverpool’s main aim at the start of the Premier League season was to compete for the league title but their lack of form along with inconsistent results hampered the drive for that goal and as a result the Reds have
been limited to challenging for the domestic cup competition.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672 has been central to Liverpool’s chances in cup competitions; he was their hero when they won the Carling Cup earlier on in the season by defeating Cardiff City on penalty kicks. Now the Reds are preparing to take on
Chelsea in the F.A Cup final at Wembley at the end of May, 2012. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809’s manager Kenny Dalglish has been under pressure as they have not been able to make a positive impact in the Premier League standings.
Reina said, "There's no doubt we've improved from last season already. We've won the League Cup with the possibility of a second while also qualifying for Europe. The target of the club is still to get back in the Champions League.
But before the start of the season, if someone had said we'd win the League Cup, reach the final of the FA Cup, as well as getting seventh, probably most people would have taken that."
He added, "It's always good to go back to winning days. Some people might say the Carling Cup is not that important but, at the end of the day, it's a trophy. We knocked out Stoke, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 and Manchester City. It was not easy.
So it was a well-deserved success and I was pleased to be part of it."
