Liverpool plan Manchester City raid
Liverpool’s boss Roy Hodgson is currently rumoured to be lining up a cut price raid of Manchester City. He is currently targeting two of the City players and has said that he hopes to see them play at Anfield next season. The two players that he has named are, Shaun Wright Phillips and Wayne Bridge. The newly instated manager is looking to bring in some quality additions to the squad. He is however facing a very heavy financial crunch and doesn’t have the appropriate funds to target the more well known players. However he feels that with Roberto Mancini looking to get rid of players on the City squad in hopes of cutting back on the teams wage expenses, might just be the key to landing the two key players. He hopes that he would be able to get the players for a cut back price which would be much cheaper than the player’s actual value.
Both the former Chelsea players and not likely to be in the first team for City even if they do stay at the club. This assurance that they would be on the bench has caused both the players to start looking elsewhere, in hopes of getting more time on the field. Both the players were informed that interests from the Merseyside club were shown in them. They both responded positively and this could only mean good news for both Liverpool and the players. This move could potentially help both the players reignite their international careers, which were cut back due to the lack of field time that they both saw during their term at the Eastlands.
Roy Hodgson is also looking to purse the seasoned players as he wishes to inject some experience into his side. He is also in dire need of a left back which is why he is desperately chasing Wayne Bridge. Fabio Aurelio, had been resigned by Liverpool after they had let the player go, only because of the fact that the team didn’t posses a left back. Their only other left back Emiliano Insua is currently in a very confusing transfer situation. It was earlier believed that the player had completed a move to Fiorentina, but the Fiorentina officials later said that they were unwilling to pay the price wanted for the player. He is currently in between being a Liverpool player and a Fiorentina player. However Bridge could be the ideal player to fill in the empty slot at Anfield.
Liverpool are also tremendously lacking in natural wingers. They have no width to their game at the moment due to the fact that they are playing make shift winger in the shape of, Dirk Kuyt. Kuyt is naturally a striker but due to the lack of availability or wingers at the squad he is made to play on the wings. The introduction of Phillips to Liverpool would mean that firstly they would get some different attacking options and Kuyt could move back to playing as a striker.
This would help the overall look of the Anfield squad since Torres would finally manage to land a decent striker to play with and the club wouldn’t need to invest in another player. This would save them a good amount of money that they could invest elsewhere. Phillips could also add some creativity to the Liverpool squad which they are currently lacking.
Experts believe that this move could prove to be a smart one. They say this because it would benefit both the players and the clubs, which is why it appears to be a win win situation for everyone.
