Fabio Aurelio has ended his six-year association with Liverpool Football and is set to return to his homeland after Gremio FC confirmed agreeing terms with the left-back.
Signed by Rafael Benitez in 2006, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Aurelio was one of a number of free transfers who joined the Reds during the time the Spanish manager was in charge. The versatile left-back soon made a name for himself at the club as he not only pushed John Arne Riise for a place in the starting line-up but also became known for his deadly prowess from dead ball situations.
Aurelio was released by the club only to be re-signed by Roy Hodgson a few weeks later as Liverpool looked for cover in the left-back department. However, a series of injuries throughout the Brazilian’s career meant that the fans never really got to see the best of Aurelio during his last few seasons at the club.
Fabio Aurelio played under three different managers at the club making over 134 appearances and scoring a total of four goals for the club including two memorable free-kicks against Manchester United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 respectively.
A statement issued on the official Gremio website stated, "Gremio confirm agreement with the left-back Fabio Aurelio http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rodrigues-c31508. The player's contract extends to December 31, 2013.”
The statement continued, "The player, developed at Sao http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011."
Aurelio’s departure comes as no surprise as former Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish, confirmed that the Reds would not be extending the Brazilian’s one-year deal and that he would be free to look for other clubs.
Aurelio made only two appearances for Liverpool during the 2011/12 Barclays Premier League season as he continued to struggle with injuries that had plagued him throughout his tenure in England.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 left-back will now return to his native homeland where it is expected he will end his career when he sees fit. Gremio also look to bolster their line up and have short listed a number of players they wish to add to their ranks and while Aurelio brings experience, the club will also be looking to make a number of other additions as well.
