Liverpool have reportedly been priced out of a move for FC Porto left-back Alvaro Pereira after the Dragao officials demanded a transfer fee in the region of €30 million for their highly-rated star.
The Merseysiders were on the look for a left-back following the departure of Paul Konchesky to Leicester City. The defender was signed from Fulham by then-manager Roy Hodgson, but he failed to live up to the expectations and was subsequently sold to the
King Power Stadium outfit.
With Konchesky gone, the club mainly utilized the talents of Fabio Aurelio and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-Wilson-c10234 to push forward from the back. However, both the players were not considered good enough to be the permanent solution at Anfield and manager Kenny Dalglish had targeted
Alvaro Pereira to join his side.
Pereira has been ever-present in the Portista line-up following his €4.5 million move from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035.
After his performances for the national team in the ultimately successful campaign, the 25-year-old attracted the attention of several clubs including Arsenal and Juventus but Liverpool were believed to be the frontrunners in the race to sign him.
Porto were also allegedly ready to cash in on their investment but were demanding top dollar for one of their best players. The Dragao officials had told their English counterparts that if they wanted to secure the services of the Uruguayan they would have
to trigger his buyout clause, which is thought to be close to €30 million
Although the Reds are well-capable of matching the figure, they supposedly ruled out the move citing the price-tag as too high for a player who had not been tested in the rigors of the premiership.
Liverpool have now to have turned their attention to Newcastle United’s Jose Enrique and are believed to be in advanced negotiations after presenting the Magpies with an €8 million offer for the Spanish U-21 International.
