Liverpool release confirmation of assistant manager Sammy Lee’s departure
Liverpool have confirmed that assistant manager Sammy Lee has left the club by “mutual consent”. It was rumoured the former Liverpool player had parted ways with the club yesterday but there had been no word from the club.
The Reds released a statement today, confirming the rumours. The official statement released by the club said:
“We'd like to place on record our thanks for all of Sammy's hard work over the years and the contribution he has made to Liverpool.
He has always been a credit to the football club and a credit to himself.
Everyone at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 FC wishes him all the best in his future career.”
The 52-year-old began his managerial career with Bolton Wanderers. After a two year period as serving as the assistant manager for the Trotters, he was appointed as the manager replacing Sam Allardyce. However, he was sacked soon after, failing to lead Bolton
out of their slump.
Lee took up the assistant manager’s post in the summer of 2008 when Rafa Benitez was the manager at the club. He stuck around even after the departure of the Spaniard, continuing on with his replacement Roy Hodgson.
When Hodgson was sacked mid-season and replaced by Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish, Lee continued on. However, his position at the club was compromised with the arrival of former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 assistant manager Steve Clarke.
Lee revealed that he had left the club on good terms and wished Dalglish and the players best of luck for the upcoming season. He said he was happy with the fact that he had been able to return to Liverpool as an assistant manager after having played at
the club from 1976 to 1986.
Lee said in an interview:
“I returned to the club in 2008 and I'm proud of the contribution I've been able to make since then.
I want to wish Kenny, the players and the supporters all the best going forward.”
Lee began his footballing career with the Reds in 1975 and after a year made his debut with the senior team in 1976. During his ten years at Anfield, Lee made a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Total-c40747 of 197 appearances in the League and scored 13 goals.
