Liverpool skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international revealed he would be continuing his rehabilitation programme, having recently recovered from a serious
groin injury.
Gerrard is currently working on his recovery at the Red’s Melwood training ground, where he has made progress. According to the player himself, he will continue on with the rehabilitation programme while the rest of the squad travel to Asia.
Gerrard said in an interview:
“I'd really been looking forward to travelling out to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Singapore-c3005 and meeting first-hand as many of our fans as possible.”
The Reds http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Captain-c8314 admitted he was disappointed for missing out the Tour to Asia, which was something he had been looking forward to. However, he maintained that complete recovery from the groin injury was more important.
The Liverpool skipper continued:
“I'm really sorry that I won't now be able to do that.
But after sitting down and talking with the medical experts and technical staff, it's been decided that the best course of action is for me to continue my rehabilitation programme at Melwood.”
Gerrard missed the later part of last season due to the same groin problem, making only 24 appearances and scoring 8 goals. He had to undergo surgery in March after the groin problem did not recover and since then has been working on returning to full fitness.
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish was also of the opinion that Gerrard continuing on with his rehabilitation programme was a better option than the England international accompanying the team for their tour of Asia.
Dalglish revealed that he wanted Gerrard to have a continued in the presence next season, which is why he wanted the midfielder to be fully fit for the beginning of the next campaign. Liverpool are preparing to take on Sunderland in their opening fixture.
Dalglish said:
“Steven continuing his rehabilitation programme at Melwood is in everybody's long term interests.”
