Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt pleased with contract extension
Holland and Liverpool striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dirk-Kuyt-c11348 revealed he had agreed to sign a one year contract extension, which will keep him at Anfield until the end of the 2013 season. Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish, who was recently made permanent, has rewarded the 30-year-old forward for his hard work this season by giving him an extension on his existing contract with the Reds.
Kuyt arrived at Liverpool from Dutch side http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Feyenoord-c39258 for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2006. He made an instant impact despite only scoring 14 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions. The next season was not particularly better in terms of goals scored, with Kuyt scoring 11 goals in the same number of appearances, however he managed to secure a place in the starting XI.
Kuyt said he had no intention of leaving the club any time soon and hinted that he could be staying with the Reds for the rest of his career. The 30-year-old Dutch forward revealed he was extremely pleased to have signed a contract extension with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, after being in talks with the club for over a month regarding the new contract.
He said while speaking to reporters, “I am very happy. We have spent a long time (in discussions) but always with the intention to reach an agreement. All the conversations were conducted in a friendly atmosphere. “It fits perfectly with the feeling I got at this club. Since the day I first walked in, I felt welcome. That feeling has never left.”
So far this season, Kuyt has managed to score 11 goals even though he has mostly been used as a right winger-c*m-midfielder. Despite originally being deployed as a striker, the Dutchman had no apparent problems switching roles. Some would argue he has in fact flourished in his new position on the right as a provider for the strikers up front.
The Liverpool boss revealed Kuyt was valuable to the club not because of his goal tally, but because of his hard work and overall performance. The 2010 World Cup runner-up has been very important in the clubs revival, which has seen them move up from the bottom half of the table to have a chance at qualifying for the Europa League next season.
Dalglish said in an interview, “He never gives up, fights with everything and he is simply a good footballer. He scores goals and it's as simple as that, and often in major competitions or at crucial moments, like the recent Manchester United game. Dirk is happy with the extension, and I am sure we will enjoy having him.”
Liverpool takes on second place Arsenal in the English Premier League on Sunday, in a must-win fixture for both sides.
