Luis Suarez has taken the latest opportunity to explain that his conscience is “calm” despite having been found guilty by an independent panel, claiming that the evidence was not conclusive.
One of the more controversial incidents of the 2011/12 Barclays Premier League was the Suarez-Evra racism row. The Liverpool striker, Luis Suarez, was found guilty of racially abusing Manchester United defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Patrice-Evra-c29231, by an independent panel.
Suarez did not appeal the decision and stated that he “accepted it without saying anything, obviously because they could have made (the suspension) longer and it would have just made the whole thing continue, but my conscience is completely calm, and so is that of the club and my family.”
The guilty verdict came with an eight-match ban, which Suarez admitted was both “strange and unbelievable”. He went on to state that he finds himself around people of different colours in Holland, Uruguay and Liverpool without any incident.
“Everyone knows that in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035 there is a huge black population. I had team-mates and friends of both colours all the time in the national team, in Liverpool, in Holland, where the majority are from Surinam, and I never had any problem with them.”
The Liverpool player went on to state how he still believed that the ‘evidence’ presented was simply Evra’s word against his and on the basis of that alone the decision is one that still does not rest well with the Reds striker.
The controversy spilled to new level when, on the return fixture at Old Trafford, when Suarez seemed to refuse Evra’s handshake. After the match, however, Suarez issued an apology and the matter seemed to be settled.
As for the taunts from the fans, Suarez was to the point when he explained that the media and the opposition fans never bothered him and all that mattered was the support of his fellow players and that of the Liverpool fans. With them on his side his conscience is clean and he is looking forward to another season with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809.
At the same time the Reds continue their hunt for the next manager after Kenny Dalglish was sacked following a roller-coaster season with the club.
