Liverpool thrashes Birmingham City 5-0 – English Premier League Update
Liverpool’s revival under Kenny Dalglish continues, as the Reds beat Birmingham City 5-0, for their biggest win of the season in a game played at Anfield, on April 23, 2011.
Maxi Rodriguez got a fantastic hat-trick, as the home side ran all over Birmingham City. The win brings in a sense of renewed optimism for the 18-time league champions in the next season.
There were a number of positives for Liverpool from the game, as Dutch international, Dirk Kuyt, scored his seventh goal in his sixth league game. Joe Cole also got his name on the score sheet, after an indifferent first season with the Reds.

After getting the 2-0 cushion, Liverpool shifted back to the 4-4-2 formation and started playing orthodox football from the wings.
Suarez was the man who created the third goal, as he got on the end of a good through ball and laid it off for Rodriguez, who easily side-footed to make it 3-0. The best goal of the hat-trick for Rodriguez was his final one, as he took a long-range shot
and smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

the bench. Cole was inside the box when he received an inch perfect through ball from the mid-field and he did not waste much time before putting it into the back of the net, to complete the annihilation 5-0.
Despite the win, Liverpool does not have much to look forward to and a sixth position is the best they can do. The Reds will not be able to compete in the Europa League next season, but the team will surely look to make a strong comeback in the next edition
of the league.
