Tom Werner, the chairman at Liverpool, has insisted that Kenny Dalglish would be given funds to improve the squad during the winter transfer window. The former player and manager at Liverpool took over the club once again after the sacking of Roy Hodgson
earlier this month.
Talking to a news channel, Werner said that there are some players that have been singled out and the club intends to get them before the winter transfer window closes. He went on to say that despite the lack of results this season, there is no need to panic
just yet.
The Liverpool chairman admitted that there are a number of areas in the team that need to be worked on, but Liverpool has never been a club driven by big spending. He went on to say that the average age of the team is not ideal, and Dalglish would have to
work on long term fixes and look to make the team much younger.
One player that is believed to be on the radar for Liverpool is the 23 year old, Luis Suarez. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Uruguay-c3035 international made a name for himself with smashing performances in the World Cup last year. Currently, he is playing in Holland for Ajax, but is believed
to be not happy at all at the club.
Till now, the most expensive player the Reds bought was http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707, back in 2007- they paid Atletico Madrid 22 million pounds for the Spaniard’s services. As it turned out, it was money well spent. Now, Suarez is believed to be worth 25 million pounds
and, given his goal scoring record, he may be another good piece of business. The Uruguayan scored 49 goals in total for Ajax last season.
Kenny Dalglish, a former player for the club and now the new man in charge for Liverpool, played 515 games for the club, and managed them for 6 years- from 1985 to 1991.
Dalglish took over when the club was in 12th place, but his first assignment was an FA cup tie against Manchester United. It did not go as planned and a 1-0 defeat saw the Reds being knocked out of the competition. The next game was against Blackpool
and his first game in the league- that also did not end very well. DJ Campbell scored the winner for Blackpool that completed a comeback win. After that came the first home game for King Kenny; once again, after taking the lead, they let in 2 goals, and a
late penalty from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dirk-Kuyt-c11348 saved a point for Liverpool as the game ended 2-2.
Liverpool are currently in the 13th spot and just 4 points away from safety. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tom-c35214 Werner said that, "We feel very confident (that) we're making progress. There's no overnight success- our squad has been inconsistent and we expect to improve it
(in the) short term. Kenny's got many of the qualities we've looked for in a manager- he has the confidence of the players and we (expect to) start to see better results".
Werner added that there is a strong possibility of Kenny being the man to stay on for next season. He added that Dalglish is loved by the fans and the players, while he also understands the culture and expectations of the club. So there is no reason why
he should not be given a longer spell to prove his credentials.
