Liverpool to offer incentives to Pepe Reina and Dirk Kuyt to retain their services
Reports are pouring in that suggest Liverpool are willing to offer two of their more seasoned players some serious incentives in hopes of retaining them at the end of the season. The Liverpool management is reported to be considering offering both http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672
and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dirk-Kuyt-c11348 new and improved contracts, in a last ditched attempt to stop the players from walking out of Anfield at the end of the season.
The team is looking to offer Reina a £10-20,000 a week raise, while offering numerous other incentives at the club. The team is also looking to offer Kuyt a similar deal, since Kenny Dalglish considers the Dutchman to be a crucial part of his future plans
for the team.
However out of the two, Liverpool have a much better chance of retaining the services of Kuyt, who has already said he would love to stay at Anfield if he could.
The player told reporters that his contract had one more season to go after the current one, but added that there were ‘things happening’ and he had had talks which looked ‘positive’. About his comfort at the club, he said, “I feel at home in Liverpool and
I don’t want to leave here. It has been a difficult time for everyone at the club with the changes that have happened since last summer but now I can sense something good is happening – I think Liverpool are on the way back.”
Reina, on the other hand, was sceptical of Liverpool’s future, saying he wanted to play Champions League football, but that didn’t seem to be in the club’s near future.
Teams such as Arsenal and Manchester United have shown serious interest in Reina. The fight for the player is expected to be a test of character for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 if they are to retain their first choice shot-stopper once the season comes to an end.
The battle to keep Reina is going to be one of the hardest that Liverpool have had to face in recent years due to the fact that the player is easily one of the best in the business at what he does. Reina’s current contract also has a buyout clause set at
a mere £20 million and that is bound to be exploited.
Nonetheless, it is going to be interesting to see how the club handle things once the transfer window re-opens.
