Liverpool versus Tottenham Hotspur – First half review: English Premier League (Part 2)
Following Tottenham’s first goal of the encounter against Liverpool at Anfield in the English Premier League, the away side gained more confidence as they started to maintain a monopoly over ball possession. Liverpool found it
hard to deal with Tottenham’s midfield as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rafael-c30339 Van der Vaart often dropped back in order to add extra numbers in the midfield region for the away side.
In the 16th minute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Carlo-Cudicini-c8340 rushed out of his six yard box
to claim the ball.
In the 18th minute, Tottenham looked dangerous as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aaron-Lennon-c3062 whose cross was
a bit too close to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Peter-Crouch-c29741 closed in behind him anticipating an error from the Spaniard.
In the 20th minute, Luis Suarez was booked by referee Howard Webb for a petulant reaction to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 Dawson’s fair challenge. The English man slid in and cleared the ball away just as Suarez was about to race past him.
Despite the fact that the challenge was a legitimate one, Suarez kicked back at Dawson as the Tottenham defender was getting back on his feet. Referee Webb spotted this unsporting conduct and duly brandished a yellow card for the Uruguayan striker.
In the 35th minute, Liverpool had their best chance of the night to gain an equalizer in the final ten minutes of the first half. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jay-Spearing-c18106 started off the move for the Reds as he spread the play out-wide towards
Johnson, the Englishman played it back towards Spearing whose first time shot from inside the Tottenham penalty area was an inaccurate one as the score line remained at one nil in favour of the away side.
In the 39th minute, Liverpool threatened once again as this time Martin Skrtel played a lofted pass towards Andy Carroll inside the Tottenham penalty area. The English rose above his compatriot http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ledley-King-c21859 in order to
make contact with the ball but his header was a wayward one as the former Newcastle United forward failed to force a save out of Carlo Cudicini.
Right at the end of the first half, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sandro-c32460 was booked by the referee for a late challenge on Andy Carroll just outside Tottenham penalty area. The free kick was taken by Luis Suarez whose eventual effort missed Tottenham’s goal
by mere inches as the first half came to an end with the score line at 0-1 in favour of Harry Redknapp’s team.
