Liverpool versus Tottenham Hotspur – Second half review: English Premier League (Part 1)
Tottenham began the second half of their English Premier League encounter against Liverpool in offensive fashion after retaining a one goal lead from the first half thanks to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rafael-c30339 Van der Vaart’s strike. The Dutchman was in action
straight away in the 49th minute as he tried his luck on Liverpool’s goal from outside the home team’s penalty area. Despite the fact that the shot was an accurate one, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672 had no trouble in grasping the ball as the former Real Madrid player’s
effort lacked sufficient power.
However disaster struck for Tottenham in the 50th minute as Van der Vaart hit the deck due to a hamstring injury. The ex-Hamburg player was substituted as a result as Harry Redknapp decided to bring on Jermain Defoe
in place of the midfielder. In the 55th minute, Tottenham were gifted a penalty by John Flanagan.
The young full back barged into Steven Pienaar’s back inside the Liverpool penalty area. Pienaar went tumbling down and referee Howard Webb pointed towards the spot. Luka Modric stepped up to take the penalty kick and the Croatian midfielder made no mistake
with his shot as Reina dove the wrong way.
With the score line at 0-2 in favour of Harry Redknapp’s team, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jermain-Defoe-c18359’s introduction gave Tottenham more options on the
ball and it also allowed http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857 to impose himself in central midfield with his trademark through balls towards the likes of Lennon and Defoe.
In the 58th minute, Liverpool were up in a roar due to Younes Kaboul’s hand-ball inside the Tottenham penalty area. Carragher and co. appealed to the referee but Howard Webb waved away their protests as the home side
were not awarded a penalty kick.
In the 59th minute, Liverpool carved up another goal scoring opportunity as Luis Suarez sent John Flanagan racing into the Tottenham penalty area with a wonderful through ball. The full back tried his luck at Carlo Cudicini’s
goal with a powerful effort from a tight angle but Flanagan’s shot only found the side netting.
