Liverpool vs Bolton Wanderers - Fantasy Premier League Preview: Gameweek 3
The last match to take place on the 27th of August is Bolton Wanderers’ visit to Anfield as they look to take on Kenny Dalglish’s Reds.
Starting things off with the home side:
Liverpool
Pepe Reina is the obvious choice for goalkeeper, not just in this gameweek, but for the entire season. One of the more pricey keepers in the transfer market, managers need to be aware that they get what they pay for.
However, Liverpool have not been too solid at the back and maybe a keeper from another match would be a wise choice, at least until the Reds’ defence settles down.
Defenders
There is plenty of choice when it comes to defenders in the Liverpool squad but our pick has to be Jose Enrique. At just 5-million, he is a sure fire starter as left-back for the entire season, if he stays fit, and with eight points to his name already,
he is a hot asset at the moment.
Midfielders
Choosing a midfielder from Liverpool is tricky, mostly because you never know where Kenny Dalglish is going to play who. Dirk Kuyt is known for getting points but at 10-million he is a bit on the expensive side.
Stuart Downing was the Liverpool FC’s journalist Man of the Match and we believe a similar performance against Bolton may just get him the points he needs.
Also, with Meireles out for two weeks, it seems Downing will be given an attacking role.
Strikers
One word: Suarez. Luis Suarez to be exact, the Uruguayan striker has been on fire since the start of the season, scoring in every match, including the Carling Cup third round draw against Exeter.
Not only that, but at 9.6-million, he is cheaper than his counterpart, Andy Carroll and has more points to boast as well.
Scoring and creating goals for fun, Suarez is the type of player managers should have, and keep, in their teams.
Bolton Wanderers
Not to be written off just yet, Bolton have had an impressive start to the season and Liverpool’s weak defence leaves opportunities for the men from the Reebok Stadium to exploit.
Seeing Suarez’s red hot form, we would advise managers from picking Jussi Jaaskelainen, as it seems the Uruguayan will cause the keeper problems one way or another.
Best to have a keeper from another team for this week at least, or use your back up keeper just to be safe.
Defenders
One of the most wanted players in the premier league, Gary Cahill is hot property at the moment after having accumulated 14 points and costing just 5.5-million, it’s no wonder that managers, in the real world as well as the fantasy one, want him.
Buy him and keep him, he may just end up playing for a top side before the window closes.
Midfielders
For once managers have a choice, they can either go for Martin Petrov or Chris Eagles. Both are similar players in terms of their style of play, both cost 5.5-million and both are level on 11 points.
So flip a coin because Bolton’s primary chance of getting something out of the game lies with them.
Strikers
Ivan Klasnic is on fire, though we would recommend Kevin Davies. Liverpool’s defence has always had a hard time dealing with the Bolton captain and we do not see that changing. A bargain at just 6.5-million.
Our Picks: Luis Suarez (STR) from Liverpool and Gary Cahill (DEF) from Bolton Wanderers, both hold the key to their side’s chances of success.
