Liverpool vs. Manchester United: Fantasy Premier League Picks – Gameweek 8
Football fans have another exciting weekend of Barclays Premier League action to look forward to after the international break and for Fantasy Premier League managers it is a welcome return to business as usual.
While every match is exciting for its own reasons, there is one match which the entire world stops to bear witness to, as two of the footballing world’s fiercest rivals will face each other this Saturday.
Overview:
Liverpool will play host to their bitter rivals Manchester United at Anfield, in what can only be described as a crucial fixture for both sides.
The home team will be looking for a win to close the gap between them and Manchester United who just happen to be top of the Premier League table.
Kenny Dalglish will be looking to build on the Red’s recent form against Manchester United at Anfield, with the home side coming away victors in the previous three matches at the stadium.
Sir Alex Ferguson on the other hand will know what a tough place Anfield is to go and get a result; however, that has never stopped him for going for a win.
This makes it interesting for Fantasy Premier League managers as they have to figure out how each team will shape up and which players will be likely to start for each side.
Goal Keeper
The meeting between the two sides tends to have goals. For a normal football fan that statistic may not be significant but when it comes to picking a Goalkeeper it makes all the difference.
Yes, both David de Gea and Pepe Reina are class keepers, but the latter has had problems with keeping clean sheets and de Gea will find himself at Anfield in a derby match for the first time; something that veteran goal keeper Van der Saar found it hard to cope with.
If managers are looking for a goal keeper, then another keeper playing against less challenging opposition would be a wiser choice.
Defenders
Manchester United wingback Patrice Evra always seems to rise to the occasion in big matches and should be on everyone’s radar, while on the other hand Liverpool’s Jose Enrique is showing glimpses of the attacking form which made him a force to be reckoned with during his time at Newcastle United.
Staying away from centre backs would be a wise choice as these matches usually have yellow cards shown left, right and centre.
Midfielders
Steven Gerrard is still getting himself back to full fitness but at the same time Charlie Adam seems to have a habit of causing Manchester United problems.
On the other hand Manchester United seem to have more firepower in midfield with both Ashley Young and Luis Nani in inspired point earning form. It will be a tough task for the likes of Martin Kelly and Jose Enrique to keep the dynamic pair in check.
Strikers:
Luis Suarez is always dangerous, yet he does not seem to bag as many points as he, perhaps, should. Andy Carroll scored his first goal for the season against Everton in the recent derby and looks hungry for more.
Meanwhile, Wayne Rooney has been in devastating form himself, scoring goals and earning points with frightening ease.
Our Picks: There is plenty of choice this weekend but Luis Nani, Wayne Rooney and Charlie Adam seem the most likely to earn their managers some points.
