Liverpool vs. Newcastle – First-half report
Liverpool’s revival continues under Kenny Dalglish, as the Reds ended the first-half against Newcastle one goal to the good and to be fair did look to have more goals in them in the first period.
It would be an understatement to say that http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 have had problems this season, but still if somehow they do manage to get into fifth place and earn an European slot, it will be nothing short of a miracle for them.
If the Reds can hold on to the score-line at Anfield in this game, they will go on level points with Tottenham, who are on fifth spot but have played a game less. For a Europa League spot, the Reds have to finish in the top 5 on the standings table.
With a winning run in the last few games, there is a renewed sense of optimism at Anfield. Dalglish started the game with a renewed sense of optimism attacking formation of 4-3-3. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Dirk-Kuyt-c11348, who has been in a good goal scoring form, was up front with the
Uruguayan sensation, Luis Suarez.
Newcastle started the game brightly and controlled the possession in first few minutes, while Liverpool decided to stay back and not commit too early. Newcastle did not make much of their early possession and Liverpool slowly started to make their way back
into the game.
The home team did not have to wait too long to get the game opener.
One of young players trusted to play in senior team by Dalglish, John Flanagan, was involved in the build-up. The full back made a searing run down the right and after receiving the cross ball, Toon defender Mike Williamson tried to block it but it fell
into the feet of Maxi Rodriguez, who is fresh from his hat-trick last week and took his shot.
The ball took a deflection from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Simpson and went into the back of the net to make it 1-0.
The goal lifted Liverpool's confidence and the home team began attacking on every given opportunity. Newcastle, on the other hand, were limited on taking long distance shots and were not allowed to make headway into the Liverpool box.
After the half hour mark, Liverpool did lose some intensity, as irresponsible passes allowed Newcastle to get some look in. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672 did well to save them.
The first half ended with Liverpool 1-0 in the lead and indications are there that Reds may get at least one more in the 2nd period, unless there is a massive turnaround in Newcastle’s fortunes.
