Liverpool want £100million for striker Fernando Torres

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres may possibly be on his way to becoming the worlds most expensive player according to some sources.

The club are claimed to have put a world record £100million price tag on the Spaniard after heavy interest coming from cash injected Chelsea.

It is believed that the new boss at Anfield Roy Hodgson has already dismissed the reported £30m offer from the Blues and will hold out for the breaking fee.

A sum which is £20m more than the record Cristiano Ronaldo set with a move to Real Madrid last summer.

Torres was acquired in 2008 by former Reds boss Rafa Benitez for around a £20m figure plus Luis Garcia from Atletico Madrid. Since his arrival his made 79 appearances, scoring 56 goals.

His world cup campaign in South Africa hasn’t been so pleasant with a noticeable dip in form after a knee operation.

The 26-year-old does however have one more chance to fulfil his world cup dreams by scoring in tonight’s final against Holland if he is selected.

It seems Liverpool are trying to price Fernando Torres out of the market, once source said: "The impression they gave is that Torres is going nowhere."

Hodgson must now convince Torres that his future also remains with the Reds.

Will Torres really want to stay at a club that can’t offer Champions League football?
