Liverpool winger Maxi Rodriguez hints at Anfield exit in order for a Newell’s Old Boys return
Maxi Rodriguez, the 30-year-old Liverpool winger, revealed he was considering making a return to Argentinean outfit Newell’s Old Boys.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Argentina-c2841 international began his senior career with the local side in 1999, playing for the club for the next three years.
In the period from 1999 to 2002, Maxi made 57 appearances for Newell’s Old Boys in the Argentine first division and found the back of the net 20 times.
After eight years in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011, Rodriguez moved to English Premier League side Liverpool in the winter transfer window of 2010 but did not made quite the impact he had hoped for.
Since January of 2010, Rodriguez has made a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Total-c40747 of 45 appearances in the Premier League for the Reds and has scored 11 goals.
Most of his goals came in the latter part of last season, the time when Rodriguez had found his form and was undoubtedly the best player in the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 squad.
However, Rodriguez is well aware he will not be awarded too many first team playing opportunities next season which is why he is considering an Anfield exit.
The winger revealed he had been in talks with the Newell’s Old Boys president regarding a possible return to the club for next season.
Maxi said in an interview:
“When I left here, I knew I was coming back.
The president (http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/William-c36847 Lorenzo) called me and I said yes. Now it depends on the contract I have in Liverpool, maybe that can be loosened a little.”
Even though he claimed the move could wait another season or two, Liverpool could be looking to offload the player this summer to keep him leaving as a free transfer a season later.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish already has his sights set on the likes of Charlie Adam and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Stewart-Downing-c34221, both of whom would be able to replace Rodriguez.
Having already signed former Sunderland midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jordan-Henderson-c19102, Liverpool are looking to freshen up their existing squad.
Considering that, it seems highly likely that Rodriguez will be leaving Liverpool during this summer’s transfer window.
