Liverpool youngster John Flanagan given contract extension
John Flanagan, the 18-year-old Liverpool full-back, recently signed a long-term contract with the Reds after his terrific form at the end of last season.
Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish gave the young defender a chance to prove himself with the first team, and he did exactly that in the seven appearances he made for Liverpool last season.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 director of football Damien Comolli revealed he was confident the youngster would go on and establish himself in the first team in the upcoming seasons.
The Frenchman felt the young defender deserved to be rewarded for his performance for Liverpool in the last few games of the previous campaign.  
Comolli said in an interview:
“The first thing everyone will say is he deserves it because he did so well for us towards the end of last season.”
He continued:
“His attitude is absolutely terrific. As you see him on the pitch - committed, dedicated, the intensity of his game - is what he's like off the pitch.”
Flanagan began his footballing career with the Liverpool youth academy, earning a promotion to the senior squad just last year.
It was his solid performances that earned him recognition from the Reds boss, because of which he was picked out from the reserve side to feature for the first team.
He made his debut for Liverpool against Manchester City in the English Premier League, playing the full 90 minutes as a right back.

Flanagan went on to claim the Young player of the 2010-2011 season award after his consistent performances in the Premier League.
Comolli said he was certain Flanagan would go on to improve and would play a bigger role at Anfield in the upcoming seasons.
The Liverpool director of football said:
“He's only 18 years old and he's still got so much room for improvement in every area of his game - but he's already very good going forward, technically he's very sound.

I'm sure in two years' time we'll talk about him having made even bigger progress.
We're really looking forward to his development and seeing how he's going to do.”
