Liverpool’s Carragher happy with Cole’s signing
Former Chelsea talisman, Joe Cole has joined Liverpool, after Chelsea failed to renew the player’s contract. The 28-year old became a free agent and has completed his move, following a medical in Switzerland, where the side is training for the pre-season campaign.  The midfielder is all set to play alongside his World Cup team mates, Gerrard, Johnson and Carragher.
After becoming a free agent, Cole had been strongly linked with top clubs of the Premier league including Arsenal, Spurs and West Ham United. Cole was a product of West Ham United youth system, and joined Chelsea in 2003. After spending 7 glorious years at Stamford Bridge, where he won 3 Premier League medals as well as a couple of FA Cup medals, Cole completed his move to Liverpool on Monday.
The midfielder joined Liverpool on a four year deal, becoming the first player to be signed under new Manager Roy Hodgson. Liverpool needs to redeem themselves after a disappointing last season in the premier league, where they finished 7th. Their Champions League campaign also ended pre-maturely, as they were knocked out in the group stages. They were able to reach the semi-finals of Europa League, where they were defeated by eventual champions, Athletico Madrid.
The result of such a debacle, led to manager Rafael Benitez leaving the club, and several top players expected to move away from Anfield. However, upon the arrival of Roy Hodgson, the club situation is improving, and players like Torres and Gerrard are expected to stay at Liverpool.
Cole has scored 28 goals in 183 appearances for Chelsea, and has the ability to make impressive runs and timely passes, making numerous opportunities for his side. Cole will combine with play makers Gerrard and Rodriguez, and is expected to torment the opponent’s defences, using his pace, ability and dribbling. He scored his last goal against Manchester United, which was a beautiful back heel, and proved his quality to his critics. He has been subject to criticism owing to his constant injury issues, but is now fully fit and relishing to play for his new club.
Carragher was vocal about Joe Cole’s signing, claiming that it was great news for the club, and sends out a message to everyone that Liverpool can’t be counted out. The defender added that Cole has always been a top player, both at club level as well as internationally, and has played an important role for his former club over the years. The 32-year believed that a lot of clubs wanted Cole, but he chose Liverpool above all. This signifies that the club still has a lot left in it, and praised the manager and the board for snapping up Cole. The England international added that he talked to a lot of supporters of the club, and every single one of them was delighted with the move. Jamie added that signing Joe Cole has bolstered the squad and has motivated everyone.
Carragher had a difficult time in South Africa, when he was forced out of retirement, and made the 23-man squad. He couldn’t find the form he was famous for, and didn’t play that well. Jamie stated that the club has had a difficult time over the past season, but now is fully focused on the job at hand. The defender is aiming to look forward, and concentrate on the league. Carragher praised Joe’s ability, claimed that the midfielder has the charisma and talent to please all supporters, and expect him to do what he does best at Anfield. The 32-year old added that signing him up has delighted everyone around the city. The Liverpool defender added that it’s great news, and expects more news to come. He claimed that such a signing was needed, and came at the perfect time.
