Liverpool’s Damien Comolli believes selling http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fernando-Torres-c13707 was for the best
Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli has claimed that selling Fernando Torres to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 was a fantastic bit of business.
The Reds were paid a whopping 50 million pounds to let go of Torres in the January 2011 transfer window.
The Spaniard had made his mind up to join the Blues as soon as he heard that an offer had been made for his services. It led to the belief that Torres had been unhappy at Anfield, a notion that was later confirmed by the man himself. Despite early hiccups
in the deal, the move was finally completed on the final day of the January transfer window.
Torres came under much criticism from the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 faithful, some of whom went so far as to burn replica shirts bearing the striker’s name. However, the club’s director of football believes that Torres’ move to Chelsea was best for all involved.
Damien Comolli insists that selling the Spaniard was the only option available, especially since Liverpool were getting such a huge boost to their finances. Comolli claims that if a player does not want to be at the club, it is better to let him leave, rather
than have him sulking around for the rest of the season.
Besides, Liverpool put the 50 million pounds they received from selling Torres to good use. The Reds brought in Luis Suarez from Ajax and Andy Carroll from Newcastle, both of whom are settling in quite well with their new employers.
Speaking on the club’s activity during the final days of the January transfer window, Damien Comolli said, “When you have someone who doesn’t want to be here, and you swap him for people who do, the atmosphere changes. Getting two players triggered the fact
that we could sell one who didn’t want to be here and got two who did.”
He added, “It’s just a happy camp. We are looking forward to a bright future.”
Liverpool are currently in sixth position in the English Premier League standings, hot on the heels of fifth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
