Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt could reunite with Rafael Benitez at Inter Milan – reports
Reports from the Netherlands are claiming that Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has the chance to link up with his former manager Rafael Benitez at European champions Inter Milan.
Kuyt – who Benitez signed for Liverpool from Feyenoord in 2006 – has been linked with a move to the Italian side all summer, and was left out of the squad for Liverpool’s Europa League tie with Trabzonspor at Anfield last night, with many putting his non-selection down to the fact that he wouldn’t be cup-tied should he play for another team in European competition this season, and not simply Roy Hodgson’s squad rotation.
Dutchman Kuyt featured in every game in his country’s run to the World Cup final in the summer, and played 90 minutes in Liverpool’s Premier League opener – a 1-1 draw with Arsenal – at the weekend.
Kuyt's agent Rob Jansen told Dutch newspaper Voetbal International: “Yes, there is real interest from Inter, but Dirk has not decided yet whether he does want to leave Liverpool. He must think carefully before leaving.
“Dirk Kuyt is a key player for Liverpool, he has an ongoing contract and was recently in the World Cup final. He may move to Inter or just stay at Liverpool. There is also the possibility that a player from Inter could be included in the deal.”
The 30-year-old is a popular player with Anfield fans, and has scored 51 goals in 202 games for the Reds.
In other Liverpool transfer news, Reds boss Hodgson has confirmed that he is willing to let midfielder Alberto Aquilani move back to his native Italy on loan.
