Liverpool’s Fabio Aurelio worried over poor away form
Liverpool defender, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabio-c13152 Aurelio recognises his club’s rather mediocre displays away from Anfield and encourages his team to pull up their socks and improve upon the worrying stats.
The Reds have been rather uncharacteristic this season. While it could be expected that settling into life without Rafael Benitez would take time getting used to, the Merseyside team has been verging on ordinary at times. Failing to finish in the top 4 for
the first time since the 2004-2005 season, Liverpool sadly don’t have the comfort of winning the Champions League to grant them automatic qualification for the European tournament this term.
Turning our attention back to their performances this term, the stats haven’t been encouraging. The Reds have won just once on their travels in the Premier League out of a possible 9 – a prominent factor that sees them shunned to mid-table. However, home
results reflect a contrasting difference in the club’s performance. Liverpool have won 8 of their 9 games at Anfield; the only time the Merseyside club failed to take all three points was against Blackpool.
The Liverpool defender commented:
"We are getting back towards the fortress that Anfield has been for Liverpool in the past. We should do better away from home and that is our hope. If we get the points on the road then the situation can change quickly.”
Building onto the defender’s argument, Liverpool’s home form brings the performance of Benitez’s replacement under the spotlight. Roy Hodgson goes raving reviews in his tenure with Fulham before setting for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809. Interestingly, the cornerstone to Fulham’s
success back then was their strong home form despite coming off as rather ordinary on their travels. With that said, while an impressive home record seemed to go well at Craven Cottage, Liverpool presents an entirely different challenge – being accredited
as part of the prestigious ‘top 4’ club, getting results home and away is a basic expectation.
Reflecting on how best to go about the rest of their season, Aureilio conceded that while it is difficult pinpointing where the team is lacking at the moment, perhaps the best way to tackle the situation is to take on each game at a time.
The Liverpool defender concluded:
"We think we should have won most of those games but during the 90 minutes we haven’t played as well as we can. We are trying to make sure we improve that."
Focusing on the next game rather than hosting doubts over their Premier League run so far seems to be a sensible ploy. However, owing to Aurelio’s comments, it seems as if the team is lacking direction and motivation – something that is usually considered
as the manager’s role in modern time football.
