Liverpool's boss Kenny Dalglish has asked his striker Andy Carroll to stay calm and take every stick from his former club fans in a positive manner. He was talking ahead of Liverpool’s next game against Newcastle United, to be played on Sunday, May 1 at
Anfield.
Former Magpies' striker earlier made a transfer to Liverpool for a record GBP 35 million in the January transfer window, which left a massive void in the Toons' strike force. In the wake of that transfer, Carroll is expected to receive a lot of stick from
the former fans once the striker is fit enough to start against them. Currently the striker is suffering from a hamstring injury and is fighting hard to regain his fitness on time.
Dalglish has assured Carroll of his support and encouraged him to take any abusive remarks as a compliment. The Scott insisted that Carroll holds a lot of respect for his former employers and did his best to impress them, but the club did not treat him in
a manner, he deserved.
The 60-year-old added that he is looking forward to host Newcastle on Sunday and would love to see the value of his striker which he’s expected to receive from the Magpies fans.
Former Blackburn Rovers' manager further told, "I think the boy is expecting something, but it won’t take away from what he has done for their football club and it won’t take away what the football club meant to Andy. I don’t know what they will do on Sunday
but if, as a player, you don’t get abuse off your old supporters then they can’t have been too disappointed you left.”
Manager hoped that the 22-year-old gets rid of his injury on time in order to face his former club. Further voicing his opinion about the striker’s injury, Dalglish mentioned that the striker himself wants to feature against the Toons and is on the verge
of being fit ahead of the clash.
He concluded by saying, "We’ve been delighted with the way he’s gone about his rehabilitation and his performances in the games. Unfortunately after scoring the two goals against Manchester City he picked up an injury so we just have to wait and see if he
is going to play on Sunday. If he’s not fit then he will be fit for the next game. He’s got a bit of mileage left to go in this season yet."
Liverpool are currently 6th in the League table with 52 points and are chasing that illusive UEFA Champions League spot with only four games left to play in the season.
