Liverpool’s Kenny Dalglish tells Andy Carroll to ignore the response from Newcastle fans
Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish has stated that Andy Carroll should ignore the negative response, if any, from the Magpies supporters in the next Premier League clash
at Anfield.
The manager added that Carroll will have something on the back of his mind about the reaction from the supporters from his former club, but insisted that the striker
should take things positive and play with full confidence.
Andy Carroll completed a controversial GBP35 million move from Newcastle United to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 on the last day of the January transfer window. The striker had claimed
that the move was against his will and the club had forced him out.
The manager revealed that Carroll will be anxious to play and will not be in divided loyalties against his boyhood club. He stated that the forward should take all
the criticism positively and consider it as a compliment.
Dalglish stated that the fans obviously get upset when they lose a very important player, but their criticism cannot take away everything that the lad has done for
the club. He said that Carroll was influential in the Magpies promotion back to the Premier League and the fans should respect that.
“I think the boy is expecting something. The fans will do whatever they want. It will not take away from what he has done for their club and it won't take away what
the club meant to Andy. It is a compliment, really, in a strange way, if you do get the abuse because it means you must have been important to them,” the Scot was quoted as saying.
The former Liverpool legend expressed his delight on the striker’s impact on the squad and admitted that Carroll could be doubtful for the match but his start will
depend on a late fitness test.
“We have been delighted with the way he has gone about his rehabilitation and his performances. We will need to see if he can play Sunday, but if he is not fit Sunday
he should be fit to play the next game (against Fulham on May 2),” the former Newcastle manager concluded.
Andy Carroll has scored two goals for the Reds since arriving in January in a total of seven appearances.
