Liverpool’s Mark Lawrenson rules Arsenal out of the Barclays Premier League title race – EPL News
Legendary Liverpool defender and BBC pundit, Mark Lawrenson, believes that Arsenal lack depth and quality to even challenge for the Barclays Premier League title next season.
Lawrenson’s words might carry some weight as Arsenal have not won any title in the past six seasons and are yet to make any signing in the current summer transfer window.
The Legendary defender has claimed that it would be hard for Arsenal to even make it to the top-five next season if they lose Cesc Fabregas and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360, who have been heavily linked with Barcelona and Manchester City respectively, in the current transfer
window.
“I think with Arsenal there’s too much predictability around the likes of Nasri and Fabregas,” the legendary defender stated.
Lawrenson believes that the Gunners’ defenders lack experience and has insisted that until they sign an experienced centre-half, Arsene Wenger’s defence would keep on getting exploited next season.
Moreover, the former Liverpool defender feels that Arsenal also do not have an experienced and established goalkeeper in their ranks, which will also backfire for them next season.
Lawrenson has also asserted that Arsenal lack leaders on the pitch other than Cesc Fabregas and believes that all these reasons hugely affected the Gunners season last season.
He added, “In terms of experience, they have also got no centre halves or a goalkeeper and other than Fabregas, no leader. That’s why they fell apart last season,”
Arsenal finished fourth in the Premier League standings last season and will play in the UEFA Champions League in the upcoming term. The BBC pundit believes that the Gunners’ European fixtures will play in favour of Liverpool, who will not be involved in
any European competition. Lawrenson has tipped Kenny Dalglish’s men to nick the fourth spot ahead of Arsenal next season.
“Most crucial will be their involvement in Europe, which Liverpool don’t have. This will be big for Dalglish’s team at the business end of the season, with no travelling all over the continent or playing on Thursday nights,” Mark Lawrenson concluded.
Arsenal and Liverpool will go head-to-head on the second week of the upcoming 2011/12 Barclays Premier League season.
