Neven Subotic staying with Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund central defender is staying with German champions, Borussia Dortmund, for another season after reports claiming that Liverpool were interested in signing the player in this summer’s transfer window.
The defender was linked to a number of top European clubs after a brilliant season last term which saw Dortmund winning the German Bundesliga. Liverpool were reportedly leading the race to sign the player as Kenny Dalglish was in search of a central defender.
But the player’s agent denied any such claims, insisting that Subotic has a contract with the Borussians and he will surely stay.
Stephen Kelly revealed that the Serbian will not be leaving Dortmund and will definitely be part of the side’s squad next season. He insisted that the player is happy at his current club and has no intentions whatsoever of leaving.
“Neven will not be leaving Dortmund this summer, I am certain. He is happy there and has a very good contract, one that expires in 2014. Of course there is interest and, has been from the beginning, but he does not want to leave the club. He wants to play
for them in the Champions League,” he was quoted.
Neven Subotic made 41 appearances for Dortmund last term, scoring three goals.
Bremen want Greek defender
Werder Bremen are linked with possible transfer for Genoa defender, Sokratis Papastathopoulos. The Germans are in search of a quality centre-back and have reportedly made the Greek their prime target this summer.
The player spent the last season with Serie A winners, AC Milan, but failed to make an impact, making only five appearances all season.
Bremen General Manager also revealed that the club is in talks with the Greek international but the transfer could be a difficult one. He admitted that the club want the defender but claimed that they could face competition in the transfer market.
“We have been talking to Sokratis Papastathopoulos (about a move to Weserstadion). But there is work to do,” he was quoted as saying.
Sokratis Papastathopoulos has 20 international caps to his name and was Greece’s Young Player of the Year in 2008.
