Liverpool’s Pepe Reina denies Atletico Madrid’s link – EPL News
Liverpool goalkeeper, Pepe Reina, has rubbished rumours linking him with a move back to Spain with Atletico Madrid seeking a replacement for their outgoing number one goalkeeper, David Da Gae.
Da Gae has emerged as Manchester United’s prime transfer target to replace Van der Sar, who drew curtains on his career a few weeks earlier. The 20-year-old is on the verge of joining the Barclays Premier League Champions.
The prodigious goalkeeper was seen undergoing the United medical Bridgewater Hospital in Manchester. The Red Devils are expected to announce the signing of Spain Under-21’s shot-stopper in the next few days for a fee believed to be £17.8 million.
However, Atletico Madrid will be without their first choice keeper and want to sign a perfect replacement to their outgoing David Da Gae. There have been speculations linking Liverpool’s first choice shot-stopper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pepe-Reina-c29672, with a return to his home land,
Spain.
Reina has been away from his country for the past six years and it was rumoured that the Spanish goalkeeper may consider moving back to his native land.
But the former Barcelona player has denied such speculations and has claimed that he will stay at Liverpool.
He told the reporters, “I know Atletico are looking for a goalkeeper, but I won't be changing colours. I have a five-year contract and I'm happy at Liverpool.”
Reina was heavily linked with a move away from Anfield earlier in the second half of the season. The Spanish had also revealed his desire to play in the UEFA Champions League and even threatened to leave Liverpool if they fail to offer him European action.
He said, “I won't lie, I want to play in the Champions League and challenge for titles.”
Liverpool finished sixth in the Barclays Premier League last season and despite the fact he will not be playing in the UEFA Champions League, Reina has insisted that he remains fully committed at Anfield.
Reina joined http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 from Villarreal in 2005 and has gone on to establish himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the Barclays Premier League. The Spanish goalkeeper was named Barclays Premier League golden glove winner for three consecutive seasons
from 2005 to 2008.
Reina has won 145 clean sheets in 307 appearances for Liverpool in the past six seasons.
