Liverpool's Sammy Lee says club need to be consistent
Liverpool assistant manager Sammy Lee says that the English Premier League club must be more consistent in their results if they are to qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season.
After a woeful start to the campaign which saw them mired in the relegation zone after seven games, Liverpool have undergone a mini-resurgence the highlight of which was a 2-0 victory over defending champions Chelsea.
However, the Reds could not overcome the challenge of a physical Stoke City side on Saturday 13 November, and fell to a 2-0 defeat. The loss came just three days after the Reds were held away by Wigan Athletic. If Liverpool had won both of those matches, they
would have risen to fifth, but instead they are now sitting in 11th place.
As a result, Lee has called for the coaches and players at the club to ensure that they start winning such games.
He told the club's official website that: "I can understand the euphoria after our win over Chelsea but we have always said that we take nothing for granted. We got a result against Chelsea and then followed it up with two indifferent results. We are all asking
that question about consistency, none more so than the players. It's everybody, not just myself, (manager) Roy (Hodgson) and (first-team coach) Mike Kelly.
"We are all in it together and are all trying to find how we can get back to a more consistent vein of form. Even after the win against Chelsea we were still complaining and analysing things that we need to improve on. I can promise everyone that we are still
working hard and trying to put things right."
Liverpool have a good chance to kick-start their season with a string of fixtures over the next two months where they will not play any of the teams in the top four — Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United or Manchester City.
They will next play bottom-of-the-table West Ham United on Saturday 20 November before a difficult trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday 28 November.
