Liverpool’s clash with Blackpool looking bleak as weather takes a turn for the worse
Liverpool's scheduled Boxing Day (26 December) clash against Blackpool at Bloomfield road is in danger of being called off, after both sides preparations took a hit due to adverse weather conditions.
Blackpool’s stadium is the main problem this time around, as the Bloomfield Road stadium might not be able to deal with the excessive amount of snow in the region. If that is indeed the case then the match will be called off. Blackpool had to postpone games
against Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United over the past few weeks, due to the poor under-soil heating at the club.
If the match is postponed, it will be a yet another dull weekend for Blackpool and Liverpool supporters, as their team’s respective matches were postponed due to snow. There are two main reasons as to why these matches are being called off by the English
Premier League, as well as the host clubs.
Firstly the excessive snow fall on the pitch makes it unsafe for players to play on the field, as they risk injury. Secondly the bad weather conditions hamper the ability of fans to travel to away games, and in some cases even the home games. These conditions
have plagued English football this winter, as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 has seen a new low in temperatures.
Blackpool is currently in negotiation with the English Premier League as the match looks to be in doubt. Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston recently told reporters, "We can almost certainly guarantee the pitch will be playable, but it is the prevailing conditions
once the covers have been removed, and whether the pitch will freeze before the end of the game taking place”
He added, "That is one we are talking to the Premier League about to see what their standpoint and inspection protocol will be." Blackpool have impressed in the English Premier League this season with their minimal budget, as they have already scored crucial
away wins over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 and Newcastle United. However, Karl Oyston defended the club’s under soil heating facilities, as he said that the installation of the under soil heating systems was not a financial consideration by any means.
Karl added to his remarks as he stated, "It really is not a financial consideration. These games will be played and we will only know the financial implications once the season is over, and we know how many games have been picked for television. At the moment,
it is not at the forefront of our mindset - spectator and player safety are."
