Pepe Reina has come out and stated that it will take Liverpool at least a couple of years to start challenging for the UEFA Champions League and the English Premier League title once again...
Liverpool’s star goalkeeper, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 might not challenge for the English Premier League title next year or the year after that as well as the club is going through a transition at Anfield.
With Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool fans expected at least a top four finish this season and a challenge to the English Premier League champions Manchester United but such dreams have been shattered by their team’s inability to string
together a fine run of results in the league which has seen Liverpool fall down to seventh place in the league standings. Liverpool lost their latest league encounter to Bolton Wanderers by three goals to one in an embarrassing encounter which saw them outplayed
by Owen Coyle’s relegation battling outfit.
However Liverpool have a good chance of making it to the league cup final if they manage to get a positive result against Manchester City as they take a one goal advantage into the second leg of their semi-final tie against the
league leaders.
Pepe Reina said in his interview, "I think it will be two or three more years before we are ready to challenge for the Premier League or Champions League again. Hopefully it will be as soon as possible but we are within touching
distance of the Carling Cup final. We have not won a trophy since 2006 and it is very important to the club to collect some silverware this season.”
He added, "At Liverpool, winning trophies is vital and we have a great chance of doing that in the Carling Cup. Of course, we are still working hard to qualify for the Champions League next season but we know it will be difficult.
Liverpool is a club that is used to winning."
Kenny Dalglish will hope that his team can gain a place in the final of the Carling Cup which will give them their only realistic chance of obtaining silverware this year as they are already out of the Premier League title race.
