Living Costs in Ireland?

A friend wants to migrate from Iran to Ireland (Dublin preferably) with husband and 2 grown up children. Would appreciate info on what the living costs would be like for an average upper middle class life (rent for 3-4 bedroom place, food and daily expenses, others). Also any other info will be appreciated.

  1. Hi there.

Check out daft.ie to get an idea of rent prices throughout Dublin City and the rest of Ireland.  Rent depends on where you live in Dublin; some areas are expensive (i.e., City Centre, south City Centre- Ballsbridge) and some areas are cheaper- outskirts of the city.  If you need to commute, you can buy bus passes for the year for €780.00.  I recommend public transport to get around Dublin as parking, petrol, insurance, and car maintenance can be pricy, not to mention hectic!

Daily expenses are not too bad.  Tescos and Dunnes Stores are reasonable for groceries, and conveniently located around town.

Eating out can be expensive.  For two people, eating out can be €50ish in the city centre.

Day trips around Dublin are not too pricy.  As a student, me and my friends used to take the DART to nearby Bray wehn the weather was nice.  We also used to go to Northern Ireland to buy clothes, as it was cheaper (even with the cost of train fare).  The journey north was only a little over an hour (to Portadown).
