I'm going to University of Western Australia next year and am probably going to live alone. How safe is it to live alone in the suburbs surrounding the Uni? Like Claremont, Crawley, Dalkeith, South Perth, Cottesloe, Peppermint Grove and those suburbs. Anyone have any experience living in these suburbs?

Thanks.

  1. wellll i wouldnt do it. get a room mate through uni there are always ppl lookin for a room. i heard someone was found dead in pepe grove 2 weeks ago, and there was the claremont serial killer. lol hope i didnt scare ya out of it.

  2. Perth is VERY safe. I live there and I have lived in a lot of other cities and i have to say Perth is the safest.

The people are friendly and are always up for a good laugh. We do have our problems at times, but they are nothing to concern yourself about. Just take care and lock your door like you normally would.

    Welcome to Perth.

  3. Treefrog is fairly correct, but no matter where you live, common sense is the go. Use defensive techniques and avoid placing yourself in potentially dangerous situations. Walking alone on a dark street at night increases the risks whatever city/country you live in.

The suburbs you have identified are all OK generally.

  4. They are all really good Suburbs and some of them are really really expense. Forget Dalkeith and Peppermint Grove unless you are a millionaire.

If it was me these are the suburbs I would look at.

Nedlands, Claremont and Shenton Park. I really like South Perth  as long as you don't mind crossing the Narrows Bridge when you go to University each time.

Don't worry about living alone. It will take you know time at all to make friends. Perth people are very friendly.
