i'm thinking of buying a flat in germany but have never been there.

the location is great for other european countries but my luck so far in contacting

germans through estate agents doesn't seem to good. i almost get the impression why would i want to live or buy here...is there some sort of problem in an english person wanting to visit/live in east germany or is it just a cultural thing?

  1. Its probably a culture thing, I've been to Germany (west) several times and I love it. But good luck with that.

  2. Do you speak german?

Do you know were you want to live?

Do you have a job there?

Do you know you cant pay with us dollar and exchanging dollar for euro cost a lot of fees, plus the is dollar weak now.

There are a lot of sites to look for, but none of them are in english. Here are some if you speak german.

    http://www.immobilienscout24.de/de/finde...

    http://www.immowelt.de/

  3. Spend a week or two in Germany first then decide if you want to live there ,my experience of germany, and i have been there many times ,it'sa great part of the world and i would like to live there .

  4. There is no problem for anybody to visit east germany anymore.

I'd suggest you visit Germany before living there and why not travel to different areas as well?

Sometimes there are remarkable differences to consider between for example Munich and Hamburg.

As for eastern Germany, houses will be much cheaper there, but that is not without a reason, the unemployment rate is sky rocking in some areas!

  5. Visit Germany first - but never buy an appartment in Eastern Germany. It is xenophobic - and the economy is not doing well.

  6. Take a look first.Go to different areas in Germany and get to know people. Buying a flat in east Germany can be very cheap, due to high unemployment and too many houses on the market. Why would you want to buy in Germany? As an investment or to live there when you´re retired? All these things should be considered. Mentality also differs from north to south and east to west. I could recommend some very nice places.

  7. The famous German Beckenbauer said: "Let's look and see". Which means first visit Germany and then decide whatever you want. NOT THEORY BUT REALITY:
