Question:

Living and working at the army base in Japan...?

An acquaintence of mine suggested it would be easy to apply (online) for both, a job and a home at the US Army base in Japan, or anywhere else, for that matter....

Does anyone know of any good resources concerning this, or a website where one might find an application?

  1. Not true. Easy ? Maybe easy to apply. Getting there is another matter

  2. The available "local hire" civilian jobs on base are few in number and mostly go to Japanese people, especially spouses/dependents of enlisted Americans.  It is rare (but not unheard of) for an American to get a civilian job on base by applying from inside Japan.

Most of the available jobs are minimum wage positions such as garbage collection, babysitting, fast food, delivery, etc..

To apply for such a job you need to be living in Japan already on some kind of permanent residence or spouse visa.  Also you need to be friends with someone rather high up in the chain of command if you want a good chance of getting in.
