I am planning on moving to Tasmania, Australia from Canada soon, I'm sort of worried about getting around. I need some info about public transportation, living expenses, (rent) Places to live around South of Hobart or close to Margate.

And If I do live in Hobart, how difficult would it be to get to Margate on the weekday mornings? Any suggestions?

thanks in advance. :)

  1. I lived in Tasmania for a year not so long ago, there are no trains, so buses would have to be your way to go.

Living expenses arent bad, however in my experience it was kind of difficult to find a place to rent. If you are planning on going there then i suggest you start looking now.

    websites like:

here is one, where i have put in some places in hobart - with a maximum for 300.00 a week for rent.

    http://www.realestate.com.au/cgi-bin/rse...

metro tasmania is the bus service,

here is a routemap for hobart:

    http://www.metrotas.com.au/php/routemaps...

and here is a ticketing price:

and lastly, here is a map of southern tasmania, margate being on the map

hopefully this can give you a rough idea, hope you enjoy your time in australia

  2. Margate is a very nice area but there is very little public transport (buses) available, suburbs close by include Blackmans Bay, Howden & Kingston all of which have better transport arrangements and are close enough to Margate to cycle if you can't be bothered with a car. Check out the metro site for more info http://www.metrotas.com.au/ or one of the private operators http://www.tigerline.com.au/

You can get rental info at http://www.realestate.com.au/ whith prices for a 2 bedroom hous usually starting from aound $250 a week
