stone or concrete?

lots of cathedrals arches are inspired by the massive boughs of trees.....have any designers taken the idea a step one step further and incorporated trees into the design?

ie: an artificial mound or castle-ated hill top, crowned by beech trees.

i am of course thinking along the lines of follies or landscape art here. i sure there are many dead-flat landscapes in east anglia and lincolnshire, that could stand to have a focal point in the landscape that could be seen for miles around.

  1. There's a bit of a rub there, I think the reason they don't is to do with geotechnics.

Roots mess with foundations as the tree grows they are uncontrollable and would cause subsidence etc to the footings.

  2. FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT

He built skyscrapers that mimicked trees, with a central trunk and many branches projecting outward. He proclaimed that shapes found in the environment should be not only integrated, but should become the basis of American architecture

Fallingwater is a great blessing - one of the great blessings to be experienced here on earth. I think nothing yet ever equalled the coordination, sympathic expression of the great principle of repose where forest and stream and rock and all the elements of structure are combined so quietly that really you listen not to any noise whatsoever although the music of the stream is there. But you listen to Fallingwater the way you listen to the quiet of the country .........
