Question:

Living car-free in Seattle?

I am trying to sell my car because it doesn't seem necessary to actually *own* a car in Seattle. I am thinking of getting around by walking, biking, taking the bus, renting a car or using Zipcar, taking taxis, etc. Some of those options do cost money, but I figure that the money I'll gain by selling my car, canceling insurance, not having to pay for gas/parking/repairs/maint... will be worth it... not to mention the sheer freedom of not having any car-related worries!

Do any of you live car-free out there? If so, got any hints for a soon-to-be car-free newbie like me?

Thanks!

  1. if it doesn't completely work out have you considered a scooter?  they don't cost much to insure or gas up or maintain. just a thought. otherwise congratulations, you'll have a lot of extra $$!

  2. NO I LOVE MY CAR!

  3. I have never been to Seattle, and I have no idea how the transportation system is up there, but I have done it here in CA and it's definitely not difficult.  Sometimes you have to be flexible, but if you are willing to put some thought and effort into it, you'll definitely save money.
