Question:

Living in Adelaide, SA - what I need to know?

We are applying for migration and are considering Adelaide. We have four kids ages 5 to 11 years. I would appreciate any inputs on the following:

1. Please share what are good places/suburbs to raise children, preferably accessible to transportation and schools (to make it easier, as we have 4 kids and possibly buying a car is not an option at the start). We are thinking of at least a middle class area.

2. Churches nearby would be a big plus, we are Catholics.

3. My husband and I are visiting next month and will stay for about a week. What are the things you would recommend we check out (with view of settling down in the future, as opposed to merely doing the "tourist" stuff).

Many thanks!

  1. Hello

There are many great places to live in Adelaide with children, it is very child friendly.

A couple of suggestions with plenty of public transport available include Lockleys, Aberfoyle Park or Hallett Cove areas. These are nice upper middle suburbs with biggish houses and plenty of parks, schools, shops etc and not too far from the city.

See www.realestate.com.au or www.domain.com.au for property and suburb info.

    See www.adelaidemetro.com.au for bus timetables.

I can't tell you much about the churches in the area as I am not Catholic, but I'm sure there is at least one in each suburb. There are probably Catholic schools also.

I would just travel around while you are here, looking at different areas of Adelaide - shops, schools etc. I would avoid the far north or south, but otherwise you could live anywhere. You might also like to look at the Adelaide hills - this is where I live - they are cooler and wetter, more leafy/rural but a little further out eg Mt Barker. Still plenty of facilities but not quite as much transport.

    Good luck and have fun
